With the newly renovated walking mall the dr.ed.com recently conducted some research City of Winchester and Old Town Development Board (OTDB) sought to bring exciting events and new faces downtown. With the help of Full Circle Marketing (FCM) they were able to accomplish this.
FCM implemented seven first time events during the summer and fall of 2013. The events ranged in variety from a summer concert series to an Oktoberfest-themed beer festival.
Friday Night Live
Friday Night Live featured two music venues and entertainment up and down the walking mall, which transformed the Old Town into “One Big Block Party.” Happening three times on the second Friday of every month, Friday Night Live, showcased top musical talent from both local and national talents. Along with mimes and magicians, Friday Night Live, was the perfect event for families to rediscover Old Town.
Rockin’ Independence Eve
In efforts to remind people how exciting Old Town is, the City of Winchester and the Parks and Recreation Department decided to move the fireworks celebration, normally held in Jim Barnett Park, downtown. FCM capitalized on the move by hosting Rockin’ Independence Eve’, a 4th of July celebration that featured fun activities for people of all ages. From a burger eating contest to a cornhole tournament, Rockin’ Interdependence Eve brought people down by the thousands packing out the walking mall!
Salute to Our Troops
Salute to Our Troops honored past and present military personal in conjunction with the 60th Anniversary of the armistice signing that brought an end to the Korean War. The event featured a parade as well as historical exhibits and a military panel discussion.
What do you get when you take a traditional beer and wine festival and add a twist of football…the Downtown Tailgate! FCM’s first fall event was a smash! Featuring a plethora of craft beers and wines and of course football the Downtown Tailgate brought people down to the center of Old Town.
OctoBeer Fest was FCM’s attempt to bring Oktoberfest to Winchester, and FCM nailed it! Featuring German and craft beers as well as European wines, OctoBeer Fest was by far the most successful event that happened in Old Town. The event also featured a traditional Bavarian-band, costume contest and dancers.
